Could you be an Independent Member of a Police Misconduct Hearing?

The Police Authorities of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside are seeking applications from persons wishing to be appointed as an Independent Member to sit on Police Misconduct Hearings in Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. If appointed, you may be called to sit on a hearing in any of these areas.

You will be required to assist Misconduct Hearings in determining a fair and evidence-based judgment about a particular officer’s conduct and agreeing an appropriate sanction. The appointments aim to reassure the community that misconduct matters are properly investigated and proceedings properly adjudicated.

You will be expected to prepare for, attend and participate effectively in Misconduct Hearings and be able to constructively challenge accepted facts and views.

We are looking to appoint a number of Independent Members for 5 year terms of office. You will be expected to attend approximately two or three hearings a year. Applicants must be over 18 and must not be a serving or retired Police Officer, or be a member of Police Staff, a Special Constable, or a current Police Authority Member or Officer. A daily allowance of £210 is payable, together with associated expenses.

We firmly support a policy of equal opportunities and welcome applications from all eligible persons irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, religious belief, sexual orientation or disability.
